6 Killed in Strike by Pakistani Military; 8 BSF Personnel Among Injured
PTI, Jammu/Pathankot, May 10, 2025 : Six persons were killed and eight Border Security Force (BSF) personnel were among several injured in fresh mortar shelling and drone strikes by the Pakistani military on Saturday. The attacks have pushed lakhs of residents in India’s border districts to the edge, with debris of unidentified projectiles found and a crater formed in an agricultural field.
Residents of villages near the Line of Control (LoC) in three districts of Kashmir are fleeing their homes in large numbers. Officials reported that nearly 1.10 lakh people from Baramulla, Bandipora, and Kupwara districts have been relocated to safer areas, as both houses and government buildings have been struck by Pakistani shells.
In Jammu’s R S Pura sector, eight BSF personnel were injured in Pakistani shelling along the International Border (IB). They are currently being treated at a military medical facility.
In another incident in Jammu’s Rajouri district, Additional District Development Commissioner Raj Kumar Thapa and two of his staff members were seriously injured when an artillery shell hit his official residence in the town. All three were shifted to the nearby Government Medical College, where Thapa succumbed to his injuries.
Subedar Major Pawan Kumar, a resident of Himachal Pradesh, lost his life after a Pakistani artillery shell exploded near his post in the Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch on Saturday morning.
In Rajouri town, two-year-old Aisha Noor and Mohammad Shohib (35) were killed, and three others were injured when Pakistani shelling struck near an industrial area, officials said. A 55-year-old woman, Rashida Bi, also lost her life when a mortar shell hit her house in Kanghra-Galhutta village in the Mendhar sector of Poonch district.
Another civilian, Ashok Kumar alias Shoki, a resident of Bidipur Jatta village, was killed in cross-border firing in the R S Pura sector, officials added. Three more persons were injured in intense shelling in Poonch and were evacuated to a hospital. A local journalist was also injured in the Nowshera sector of Rajouri.
In Jammu’s outskirts, Zakir Hussain (45) was killed and two others, including a young girl, were injured in Pakistani shelling in Kheri Keran village of Bantalab. Four more civilians were injured when artillery shells and suspected drones hit residential areas in Jammu city, including Rehari and Roop Nagar.
