131 Teesta Flood Victim Families to Be Rehabilitated in New Colony Named ‘Teesta Pally’: CM Mamata Banerjee
KalimNews | May 20, 2025 | Siliguri: In a significant rehabilitation initiative, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday announced that 131 families displaced by the Teesta River floods in October 2023 will be permanently resettled in a newly constructed housing colony in Jalpaiguri district. The announcement was made during an official government programme held in Siliguri as part of the Chief Minister’s administrative tour of North Bengal.
The rehabilitated families include 80 from Chamakdangi under Dabgram I Gram Panchayat and 51 from Laltung Busty under Rajganj Block. These families had lost their homes in the floods and were temporarily relocated to Kholachand Fapri within the same block. ![]()
Each of the affected families has been provided land pattas (ownership documents) and will receive new homes under the state’s flagship Banglar Bari housing scheme. The resettlement site has been officially named ‘Teesta Pally’ by the Chief Minister.
“This government stands with every citizen in times of crisis. No one will be left behind. The people of Chamakdangi and Laltung Busty, who suffered immense hardship after the Teesta flood, will soon have secure homes and land to call their own,” Banerjee said while addressing the gathering.
She added that the housing initiative, fully funded by the state government, aims to ensure dignified living conditions for vulnerable and disaster-affected families.
The Chief Minister’s announcement is part of a broader push for inclusive development across the region, with hundreds of projects being inaugurated or launched during her three-day visit to North Bengal. The government continues to focus on delivering critical infrastructure, housing, and welfare support to rural and marginalized communities across West Bengal.
