Pahelgam suspect arrested : Swift Action by Ganderbal Police in Identification and Ongoing Security Operations

Agencies, April  26,  2025 :  In a swift and decisive move, the Ganderbal Police have successfully apprehended a suspect whose image had recently circulated on social media. The image, posted by a female tourist (name withheld), depicted an individual who allegedly inquired about her religion in an unsettling manner. The incident sparked concerns, and the Ganderbal Police, acting quickly, identified the individual as Aiyaz Ahmad Jungal, a resident of Gohipora Raizan in Ganderbal. Jungal, a pony service provider at Thajwas Glacier in Sonamarg, was subsequently arrested. Following his detention, he has been subjected to sustained interrogation as part of the ongoing investigation. The police have confirmed that appropriate legal actions are being pursued in accordance with the law.

In parallel, and in light of the prevailing security concerns in the region, Ganderbal Police have launched an intensive security operation involving coordinated efforts with the Army, Para, CRPF, and SSB. The operation, which began on April 25, has seen security forces conduct door-to-door searches across multiple areas of the district, especially those areas considered to be high-risk or known to have potential connections with organized groups or militants.

The security forces have strategically targeted regions near forest lines and the snowline, areas where there is a higher likelihood of militants or their associates seeking refuge.
