Piyali Basak Embarks on Shishapangma 2025 Expedition with a Vision for Peace and Innovation

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, March 25, 2025, Kolkata: The highly anticipated Shishapangma 2025 expedition is set to begin, targeting the fourteenth highest peak in the world at 26,300 feet. With Tibet to the north, the expedition commences with a profound sense of emotion and determination.

At a press conference, mountaineer Piyali Basak expressed her deep connection to the mountains, stating, "Mountains are neither my profession nor my addiction—they have become a part of my very essence. Whenever I find a moment to breathe, my mind and soul instinctively gravitate toward the peaks." Inspired once again by the spirit of Women's Day, she carries the experience of fifteen consecutive peak expeditions and six ascents in the Death Zone—Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, and Annapurna.

This expedition aims to set new benchmarks in high-altitude mountaineering through innovative methods, particularly on these two Death Zone peaks. With immense respect for the unwavering support and love she has received, Piyali is committed to making this journey a testament to perseverance and excellence. Additionally, the expedition seeks to promote global peace and environmental consciousness, spanning routes from sea level to the formidable heights of 27,000 feet.

Piyali was accompanied at the press conference, held at the Kolkata Press Club, by prominent social worker and eminent lawyer Ujjwal Chakraborty. The event was jointly organized by Paridhi Dekh Publication Volunteer Organization and Abhishepta Organization, who felicitated the attendees. Kajal Pal, representing Kolkata Rizam Organization, extended support to Piyali, while Prasanna Srivastava, on behalf of Bandhan Bank, also pledged assistance.

The event was graced by distinguished lawyers and social workers, including Ujjwal Chakraborty, Apurba Chakraborty, Karuna Prasad Mitra, Deepali Sinha, and Madhumita Dhoot. Following the event, Ujjwal Chakraborty, Madhumita Dhoot, and Piyali Basak addressed the media, sharing their insights on the expedition and its broader mission.
