Kalimpong District Tourism Welfare Society Celebrates 2nd Foundation Day with Pocket Visit to Kumai


KalimNews, Kalimpong, March 22, 2025 : The Kalimpong District Tourism Welfare Society (KDTWS) marked its second foundation day with a special pocket visit to Kumai, a picturesque location in the district, where tourism and local development took center stage. The event kicked off with a cake-cutting ceremony, which was led by the Chief Guest, Harkaman Chhetri, M.O.D, Department of Tourism, GTA & Sabhasad of the 44th Constituency, along with . Rajeeb Sahee, the President of KDTWS.

Following the ceremony, the gathering moved into a meeting where General Secretary Dr. Norden Michael Lepcha outlined the formation and objectives of the society, emphasizing its importance for the region’s tourism growth and its vision for future developments. Lepcha highlighted the society's role in supporting local tourism initiatives and fostering collaboration between stakeholders.

Harkaman Chhetri shared his thoughts on tourism development in Kalimpong, expressing his strong commitment to working alongside local communities and businesses to enhance the region's appeal as a tourist destination. He assured attendees that his office would continue to support efforts aimed at promoting tourism while benefiting local people.

The event also provided a platform for in-depth discussions on the tourism industry, with insights from Panchayat Pradhan and Karmaadhyakchhya, who shared both the advantages and challenges faced by the tourism sector in the region.

The day’s program, which was conducted by KDTWS Vice President Bijoy Thapa and Coordinator Sachen Thapa, also featured entertainment in the form of musical performances by local artists Bijay and Basant. The event culminated with a lively dance performance by local children, showcasing the vibrant cultural spirit of the area.

KDTWS continues to play a pivotal role in promoting sustainable tourism in Kalimpong, and the second foundation day celebrations highlighted the society's ongoing commitment to developing the district as a thriving tourism hub.
