64 Teesta flood-affected families get house building grant; 434 families have already received grant

YOWAN MOTHAY, EOI, KALIMPONG, MARCH 7, 2025 :  The Kalimpong District Magistrate’s Office and the Block Development Office distributed on Friday house building grants to 64 families affected by the Teesta floods and other natural disasters in an event organized at the Teesta Public Hall, where senior administrative officials and local representatives were present. These grants were to assist families from Teesta and other nearby flood-hit areas who had lost their homes or suffered severe damage due to the floods, helping them rebuild their lives.

District administrative officers, block development officers, panchayat officials, and journalists were honored for their significant contributions and efforts during the flood in Teesta. Speaking at the event, BDO Samirul Islam emphasized that the district administration and BDO office remain committed to supporting flood-affected families. He assured that all necessary assistance would continue to be provided to those in need.

ADM Shekhar Kumar Choudhary said that the West Bengal Government had already disbursed house building grants to 434 affected families so far. A total amount of nearly Rs 2.4 crore had been distributed to flood victims. He assured that the government would continue its efforts to provide additional relief in the coming days.

Bishal Rai, a representative of the Teesta Disaster Management Committee, expressed gratitude towards the Kalimpong District Magistrate, BDO office, and Teesta Gram Panchayat officials for providing the house building grants. He asked local Gram Panchayat representatives to identify and assist victims who had not yet received the relief benefits.

Teesta Gram Panchayat Pradhan, Songmit Lepcha, highlighted that a significant number of victims had already received relief. She acknowledged that Teesta was prone to natural disasters and assured that the Gram Panchayat remains proactive in addressing such crises. She reaffirmed their commitment to assisting affected families and ensuring timely relief and rehabilitation.
