15 Feb 2025 : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officials investigating the cash-for-school-jobs case in West Bengal have secured a fresh list of candidates whose names were recommended for various positions by some high-profile individuals from the state.

Sources aware of the development said that during the raid and search operations at the state education department headquarter at Salt Lake in the northern outskirts of Kolkata in 2024, the central agency sleuths secured names of 324 candidates whose names were recommended for schools jobs by different high-profile individuals in the state.

The list, sources added, along containing the names of individuals recommending these 324 candidates, were also forwarded to the former state education minister and Trinamool Congress secretary general Partha Chatterjee, who was arrested in July 2022 by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials in connection with the school job case.

The prominent names figuring in the list shown as those recommending these candidates include former Trinamool Congress Lok Sabha member from Bangaon constituency in North 24-Parganas district and the current party Rajya Sabha member Mamata Bala Thakur as the current ruling party legislator from Canning (East) Assembly constituency in South 24-Parganas district Saokat Molla.

The name of former Trinamool Congress Lok Sabha member from Tamluk constituency in East Midnapore district Dibyendu Adhikari is also shown in the list as one recommending some candidates for school jobs.

Dibyendu Adhikari is the younger brother of the leader of the opposition in West Bengal assembly Suvendu Adhikari. He joined BJP before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Currently, he is not occupying any Parliamentary or legislative chair.

The fourth high-profile name in the list is that of retired Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Bharati Ghosh. However, in 2019, she resigned from police services and joined BJP. She is also not holding any Parliamentary or legislative chair currently.
