Sikkim CM Attends 37th Annual Akhil Bharatiya Tamang Boudha Sangh Convention, Celebrates Cultural Heritage and Community Unity
KalimNews with inputs from IPR, Gangtok (GOS), January 25, 2025 : The Chief Minister of Sikkim, Mr. Prem Singh Tamang-Golay, graced the 37th Annual Convention of the Akhil Bharatiya Tamang Boudha Sangh on January 24, 2025, in Dalgaon, Jaldhaka, within Kalimpong district. This significant event, spanning three days from January 23 to January 25, brought together Tamang community members, leaders, and dignitaries from across India to celebrate and deliberate on the preservation of cultural heritage, community welfare, and spiritual growth.
In his keynote address, Chief Minister Tamang-Golay highlighted the importance of embracing one’s cultural roots with pride and confidence. He called for a united effort to ensure that the Tamang community's rich traditions and heritage are passed on to future generations. Reflecting on the journey of the Akhil Bharatiya Tamang Boudha Sangh over the past 37 years, he commended the visionary leadership and dedication of its former executives for laying a strong foundation for the organization. He acknowledged the Sangh's role in promoting Tamang traditions and fostering unity within the community.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister reiterated that his presence at the convention was entirely non-political. He emphasized that his participation was as a guest and a well-wisher, reaffirming his commitment to serving Sikkim and advancing its progress. He stated, “I am here to celebrate with the Tamang community and to appreciate the work done by this organization for cultural preservation and social welfare.”
The event featured a wide array of cultural and spiritual activities, including traditional Tamang music, songs, and dances performed by acclaimed artists. Community members from different regions showcased the vibrant cultural heritage of the Tamang people, reinforcing their shared identity. Prayers and discussions on spiritual enrichment further added depth to the convention.
A significant highlight of the event was the felicitation of distinguished personalities who have made remarkable contributions in their respective fields. Among those honored were - Mohanish Lama, a skilled event manager who has elevated numerous occasions through his expertise, Yougan Tamang, Press Secretary to the Sikkim Chief Minister, recognized for his dedication and remarkable career journey, Anuda Tamang, an inspiring ultra-runner and mother of five, whose resilience and achievements have motivated many, Norden Tamang, celebrated for his extraordinary run from Gorubathan to Kedarnath, symbolizing endurance and determination and additionally, Dr. Aman Moktan from Nalanda University and other prominent figures added intellectual and cultural richness to the occasion.
The convention was attended by various dignitaries, including Darjeeling MLA Neeraj Zimba and Kalchini MLA Vishal Lama, as well as Sangh members and community leaders from all corners of India. The event served as a platform to discuss pressing issues affecting the Tamang community, promote their welfare, and strengthen cultural and spiritual ties within the group.
The Chief Minister and other dignitaries were warmly felicitated by the Sangh, symbolizing unity and gratitude. The event stood as a testament to the strength and resilience of the Tamang community, showcasing their commitment to preserving their unique heritage while addressing contemporary challenges.
