Retired Army Personnel Found Dead in Locked Hotel Room in Siliguri
KalimNews, January 27, 2025, Siliguri : The body of Parshuram Chhetri, a retired army personnel, was discovered in a locked hotel room near Mahananda Bridge in Siliguri on Sunday, January 27.
Chhetri, aged 62 and a resident of Khoribari, had been working as a security guard at a bank on Hillcart Road in Siliguri. He had gone missing on January 22 after leaving home for work and failed to return. Concerned, his family initiated a search for him and subsequently filed a missing person report at the Khalpara Outpost, prompting local authorities to launch an investigation.
On the night of January 26, police discovered Chhetri’s body, which had been hanging in a hotel room in the Pradhan Nagar area. The police contacted the family and shared a photograph of the deceased, which led to the identification of Chhetri. His body was first taken to Siliguri District Hospital and later transferred to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
The discovery has raised concerns within the family regarding the role of the hotel management. They have criticized the absence of security measures at the hotel, particularly the lack of CCTV cameras, which could have potentially provided crucial evidence for the investigation.
The police have sealed the hotel room and are currently conducting a thorough inquiry into the circumstances surrounding Chhetri’s death. Both the hotel management and staff are being questioned as part of the ongoing investigation. The cause of death has yet to be confirmed, but authorities are treating the case with urgency, given the circumstances surrounding his disappearance and the discovery of his body in a locked room.
