Charges Framed in First-of-Its-Kind Recruitment Corruption Case

Baby Chakraborty, Kolkata, January 7, 2025: In a significant development, charges have been formally framed in the high-profile recruitment corruption case, marking the first time such charges have been brought in a case of this nature. The process began on Monday with the framing of charges against Sujoy Krishna Bhadra, a key figure in the case.

The framing of charges had been delayed multiple times due to the ill health of Bhadra, known locally as Kalighat's Uncle. Bhadra appeared in court virtually from a hospital bed on Monday. During the proceedings, the judge inquired about Bhadra's condition, asking, "How are you? Are you conscious? Do you understand?" In response, Bhadra replied, "I don't understand, sir."

The judge then sought clarification, asking, "I am talking about the judge you saw in court. Do you recognize him now?" This time, Bhadra answered, "Yes, sir. You were associated with Manik Bhattacharya, Partha Chatterjee, Kuntal Ghosh, and others in this matter. You illegally facilitated a job for him. You were a senior official at Leaps and Bounds. You’ve been working to hide the proceeds of corruption. I believe you were involved in illegal activities."

The court proceedings are part of an ongoing investigation into a recruitment scam that has implicated several prominent figures. Authorities allege that Bhadra, along with other key individuals, was involved in orchestrating illegal recruitments and manipulating job processes for personal gain. Bhadra’s involvement is said to have extended beyond mere administrative duties, with accusations pointing to his role in concealing the corruption proceeds.
