Sikkim CM Highlights North East's Role in India's Growth at Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav
KalimNews, Gangtok, December 7, 2024 : On the second day of the Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav, Chief Minister of Sikkim, Prem Singh Tamang-Golay, participated in a significant technical discussion titled “Towards Prosperity: Catalysing North East’s Progress for a Viksit Bharat.” The session, which brought together influential leaders and thinkers, focused on unlocking the transformative potential of the North East and its contribution to India’s growth as a developed nation.
During the discussion, Chief Minister Tamang-Golay emphasized Sikkim’s unique position as a premier tourism destination, often compared to Switzerland for its breathtaking natural beauty. He highlighted the urgent need for improved connectivity and infrastructure to harness the region’s full growth potential. "The North East holds a critical place in India's journey toward development, and enhancing its infrastructure is key to unlocking its vast economic prospects," he stated.
The dialogue delved into the region’s specific challenges, offering practical solutions and exploring untapped opportunities for growth. Chief Minister Tamang-Golay underlined Sikkim’s commitment to sustainable development, cultural preservation, and economic progress. He expressed his dedication to fostering collaborative initiatives aimed at strengthening the region’s growth trajectory.
In a forward-looking statement, the Chief Minister proposed making the Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav an annual event, fostering continuous dialogue and progress.
