Mamata Inaugurates Infosys' New Development Center in Newtown, Emphasizes Strong Coordination for Success
Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, December 18, 2024, Kolkata: Kolkata witnessed a significant milestone in its technological landscape on Wednesday as the Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, inaugurated Infosys' new campus at Hatishala in Newtown. The new development center stands as a testament to the growing influence of the state in the information technology sector.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mamata expressed pride in the occasion, calling it "a historic day" for the state. She remarked that Infosys, which started its journey in 1981, had finally established a new hub of innovation in West Bengal. The new campus, she said, symbolizes the state's commitment to technological growth and its potential as a prime destination for major IT firms.
In her address, Mamata reiterated the state government's commitment to supporting Infosys in all aspects of its growth. "Our government will provide all kinds of help to ensure that Infosys thrives here," she affirmed. Her words reflected the government's proactive stance in fostering business environments conducive to growth and collaboration.
The inauguration also underscored the importance of local governance in supporting major corporate ventures. Mamata specifically called on Shawkat Mollah, the MLA of Canning East and Chairman of the Assembly Standing Committee, who had been tasked with overseeing the security arrangements for the Infosys campus. In a directive tone, the Chief Minister emphasized that Mollah’s role was pivotal in ensuring the security and smooth functioning of the new campus. "We have to make sure they receive all kinds of cooperation," Mamata said, stressing the need for a coordinated effort from all levels of government.
The Chief Minister also reminded the police of their vital responsibility in ensuring a peaceful environment for the development center. Acknowledging the location's proximity to sensitive areas, she pointed out that the new campus falls under the jurisdiction of the Kolkata Police, Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate, and West Bengal Police. "Good coordination between all agencies is crucial to ensure that no obstacles or unrest disrupt the peaceful progress of this project," Mamata stressed.
The event was attended by numerous dignitaries, including industry leaders and officials, who shared in the celebration of this new chapter for both Infosys and the state of West Bengal. With this new campus, Infosys joins a growing list of multinational corporations establishing a strong presence in the region, a move that is expected to provide substantial economic benefits and create thousands of new job opportunities for local residents.
As the ceremony concluded, Mamata’s words left a clear message: the state government is determined to continue working hand-in-hand with global leaders in the business sector to ensure West Bengal's place as a hub of innovation and industry.
