GTA Approves Subash Ghisingh Memorial at Mirik's Manju Shree Park
KalimNews, December 4, 2024 : The Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) has approved the proposal to establish a memorial dedicated to Subash Ghisingh, the iconic Gorkha leader, and his wife, Dhan Kumari Ghisingh, at Manju Shree Park in Mirik. The proposal was submitted by the Gorkha Pita Subash Ghisingh Samadhi Nirman Committee to GTA Chief Executive Anit Thapa on Tuesday. The event was attended by MLA Neeraj Zimba and GNLF General Secretary Rishi Thapa.
Manju Shree Park, the birthplace of Subash Ghisingh, will be renamed "Subash Ghisingh Smriti Park" following the construction of the memorial. This location holds immense significance for the Gorkha community, as it marks the place where the leader, who played a pivotal role in the Gorkhaland movement, was born.
The committee, dedicated to preserving the legacy of Subash Ghisingh, expressed its gratitude to the GTA for the swift approval. They assured that the memorial’s construction would be completed at the earliest.
Anit Thapa, GTA Chief Executive, expressed his support, stating, "Subash Ghisingh was an icon of the Gorkha community. If we don’t preserve our icons, who will? The construction of the memorial and the renaming of the park is an administrative matter, and I have assured them that the memorial will be built."
The approval of the proposal has been warmly received by Ghisingh's supporters and the Gorkha community, who view it as a step towards honoring the legacy of their beloved leader.
In a Facebook post, Thapa further emphasized the importance of preserving the memory of Ghisingh, stating, “Creating a tomb and changing the name is an administrative matter. The memorial will definitely be built.”
Thapa remarked, “Subash Ghisingh was an iconic figure of the Gorkha community, and it is our responsibility to protect and honor his memory. I have given them a positive message, and the memorial will be constructed."
