His leadership and contributions to the organization have earned him the confidence of the delegates at this milestone event.
Dr. Indu Prabha Devi, previously serving as the Vice President of the ANSS, was elected as the Working President. A prominent figure from Kamrup (Metro) district, Dr. Indu is the Head of the Department of Assamese at B. Baruah College, Guwahati. Her expertise in academia and her active involvement in the cultural sphere have made her a key player in the literary community.
Shri Tilak Sharma, also a Vice President of the ANSS prior to this election, has been appointed as the General Secretary. The Assam Nepali Sahitya Sabha, the leading literary and cultural body representing the Nepali-speaking community in Assam, has played a pivotal role in the promotion and preservation of Nepali language and literature. The Sabha continues to serve as a platform for writers, poets, and intellectuals to share their work and engage in dialogue on contemporary socio-cultural issues affecting the Nepali diaspora in Assam.
The Golden Jubilee celebrations from December 6 to 9, 2024, included literary seminars, workshops, and cultural events that highlighted the contributions of the ANSS to the Gorkha community and the larger Assamese society. The event was attended by prominent members of the literary and cultural world, with Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chief Minister of Assam, gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest.
The Assam Government also showed its support by granting special casual leave to Gorkha community employees wishing to attend the Golden Jubilee Conference. This gesture underscores the importance of the event and the recognition of the Gorkha community’s role in Assam's socio-cultural fabric.
The ANSS, which celebrated 50 years of literary and community service in January 2024, continues to be a beacon of Nepali cultural and literary heritage in the region. Through its initiatives, the Sabha nurtures young talent, publishes literary works, and organizes various events that foster the growth of Nepali literature in Assam.
As the organization enters its next phase, the new leadership under Dr. Sharma, Dr. Devi, and Shri Sharma is expected to continue the legacy of promoting literary excellence and cultural unity within the Gorkha community in Assam.
