Delhi Triple Murder: Police Trace Arjun Tanwar's Route to Forest Area During Investigation
To Recreate Crime Scene Arjun Tanwar, arrested for allegedly murdering his parents and sister in South Delhi, was taken to map his route after the crime.
PTI, New Delhi, December 7, 2024 : Twenty-year-old Arjun Tanwar, arrested for allegedly killing his parents and sister at their south Delhi residence, was taken to the forest area on Friday to conduct mapping of the route where he went after the crime, police sources said.
Ex-armyman Rajesh Kumar (51), his wife Komal (46) and their daughter Kavita (23) were found murdered at their house in the Deoli village on Wednesday morning.
According to police, Tanwar did not have good relations with his parents and was upset that they liked his sister more than him. Tanwar is on three days of police custody.
On Friday, the police team took him to the forest area, where he dumped the Army knife and his blood-stained clothes after allegedly killing his sister and parents. Police said they will also take him to his house to recreate the crime scene.
During interrogation, it was found that he never went to gym and returned home within 20 minutes from the forest area, Sanjay Van, after killing his sister and parents.
Earlier, he "cooked up" a story before the police officer, telling him that he had gone to gym and morning walk and returned home after an hour, when he spotted the bodies, a source said.
From Agencies: Arjun Tanwar, a 20-year-old student and state-level boxer, had been arrested for allegedly murdering his parents and sister at their home in Deoli village, South Delhi, on December 4. The victims were his father Rajesh Kumar, a retired army officer, his mother Komal, and sister Kavita.
Police say the murders were premeditated and stemmed from Arjun’s strained relationship with his parents, particularly his father, who frequently reprimanded him for his disinterest in academics. Arjun had also discovered that his parents intended to leave their property to his sister, which further fueled his anger.
Some days ago of the fateful night, Arjun was publicly beaten by his father for disobeying him. The police said he had been planning the murders for a while and had decided to carry them out on his parents' 27th wedding anniversary.
On the day of the crime, Arjun used his father’s army knife to first stab his sister, who was sleeping on the ground floor, and then moved on to the first floor where he saw that his father was sleeping on the bed alone and killed him as well. “His mother tried to raise an alarm but Arjun stabbed her as well, killing all three,” said a police officer. After the murders, Arjun attempted to create an alibi, claiming he had gone for a morning walk and a gym session before finding the bodies. However, inconsistencies in his story led to his confession.
Arjun later revealed that he had planned the murders in advance, selecting his parents' wedding anniversary as the date for the crime. During the investigation, police recovered a blood-stained sweatshirt, the army knife, and Arjun’s mobile phone and laptop, which showed he had researched methods of murder online.
Arjun, who had represented Delhi in state boxing competitions, is currently in police custody. Authorities are considering a psychological evaluation to assess his mental state.
The crime has shocked the local community, as residents say nothing like this has ever occurred in the quiet Deoli village. The Tanwar family, originally from Haryana, had moved to Delhi in 2009 for better educational and professional opportunities.
Arjun faces charges of triple murder, and the case has drawn widespread attention due to the brutal nature of the crime and the tragic breakdown of family relationships.
