Woman Found Dead in Siliguri Rented Room, Police Suspect Foul Play
KalimNews, Siliguri, November 8, 2024: A 26-year-old woman was discovered dead under suspicious circumstances in the Lower Bhanu Nagar area (Ward 43) of Siliguri on Friday. The victim, identified as Pushpa Chhetri, hailed from Tote Busty of Bagrakote Gram Panchayat near Washabarie TE in Jalpaiguri district and had been residing alone in a rented house for the past six to seven months. Earlier, she was believed to have been from Gorubathan.
The gruesome discovery was made by two of her colleagues from the beauty parlor where she worked, located in a mall on Sevok Road. According to sources, they initially visited her house. Concerned, they returned a short while later, managed to gain entry, and were horrified to find her lifeless body lying in a pool of blood, her throat slit.
The Bhaktinagar Police Station was immediately alerted, and officers, led by Inspector-in-Charge, arrived at the scene to recover the body. The remains were subsequently sent to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Speaking on the matter, Rakesh Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (East), stated: "There are sharp weapon injuries on the throat. An investigation has been initiated to determine the exact sequence of events. While the cause of death is yet to be confirmed, we are not ruling out foul play."
An FIR has been lodged at Bhaktinagar Police Station by the guardian of the deceased woman.
It is now believed that she was murdered on the night of November 7, and the crime was discovered only in the afternoon of November 8.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community. Neighbors reported that Chhetri had kept a low profile during her stay and was rarely seen interacting with others in the area.
Police are currently examining CCTV footage from the vicinity and interviewing individuals who may have had contact with the victim. The investigation aims to uncover any potential leads, including whether Chhetri had any disputes or threats that could shed light on her tragic death.
Authorities have urged anyone with relevant information to come forward as they continue to piece together the circumstances surrounding this chilling incident.
She was the second daughter among the four sisters and two brothers in the family.
