Mamata Wants to Kill Me”: BJP’s Arjun Singh Makes Explosive Allegations Amid Corruption Probe
Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, November 28, 2024, Kolkata: In a dramatic turn of events, BJP leader Arjun Singh has alleged that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is conspiring to kill him. The statement came after Singh appeared at Bhavani Bhawan today for questioning by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in connection with alleged corruption during his tenure as chairman of Bhatpara Municipality.
The BJP leader, who has been at the center of multiple political switches between the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and BJP, has once again found himself embroiled in controversy. Singh was grilled for over three hours by the CID in a case involving alleged embezzlement of ₹13 crore linked to a cooperative bank and the Bhatpara Municipality. The case was filed by Somnath Shyam, adding fuel to the political tensions between Singh and the state government.
Political Crossroads and Allegations of Vendetta
Once a prominent figure in the TMC, Singh’s political journey has been anything but smooth. After being overlooked for a Lok Sabha ticket, Singh left the TMC in a public fallout, joining the BJP amid much fanfare. However, his return to the TMC after a brief stint with the BJP was marked by dramatic gestures—Mamata Banerjee’s posters replaced by Modi’s overnight in his offices. Despite his party switches, Singh failed to secure electoral victories, adding to his frustrations.
Now firmly back with the BJP, Singh has accused the TMC-led government of using state machinery for political vendetta. Speaking to the press after his questioning, he claimed, “This is an orchestrated move to harass and silence me. Mamata Banerjee is trying to kill me. My life is in danger.”
The CID has maintained that Singh’s interrogation is strictly related to allegations of financial irregularities during his leadership of the municipality and cooperative bank.
The Case: Allegations and Probe
The corruption case dates back to Singh’s time as chairman of Bhatpara Municipality. He stands accused of misappropriating ₹13 crore in municipal funds and cooperative bank operations. According to CID sources, the investigation involves detailed scrutiny of Singh’s financial dealings, and further questioning may be required. Singh, however, has dismissed these allegations as politically motivated, claiming that the CID’s summons are merely a tactic to “waste time and intimidate political opponents.”
A Brewing Political Storm
Arjun Singh’s accusations come at a sensitive time for West Bengal politics, where tensions between the BJP and TMC have frequently escalated into public spats and legal battles. Singh’s claims of a death threat add a new dimension to the already volatile political environment in the state.
While BJP leaders have rallied behind Singh, accusing the TMC of targeting opponents through state agencies, the TMC has dismissed his remarks as baseless and inflammatory. “These are nothing but attempts to deflect attention from serious corruption charges,” said a TMC spokesperson.
What’s Next?
With the CID intensifying its investigation and Singh doubling down on his explosive claims, the coming days are likely to see further political drama. Whether the allegations hold merit or serve as yet another chapter in West Bengal’s fierce political rivalry remains to be seen. However, the shadow of corruption and accusations of vendetta have only deepened the polarization in the state’s political landscape.
For now, Singh’s fiery claims and the ongoing probe have ensured that the political spotlight remains firmly fixed on him.
