Five-Year-Old Girl Raped and Murdered in Hooghly: Accused Arrested Amid Outrage

A five-year-old girl was allegedly raped and murdered on Sunday evening, with her bloodied body discovered in a neighbor's house. The incident has left the community in shock and sparked widespread demands for justice.

The child’s father recounted that he had stepped out briefly to purchase meat at her request. Upon returning home, he found her missing. Hours of searching led to the gruesome discovery in a neighbor's house. The girl was rushed to Dhaniakhali hospital but was pronounced dead by doctors.

The Gurap police acted swiftly after the father lodged a formal complaint. A case of rape and murder was registered, and the accused neighbor was arrested on Sunday night. Considering the gravity of the case, the investigation has been entrusted to the Circle Inspector of Dhaniakhali.

Hooghly District Superintendent of Police Kamnashis Sen, along with Additional Superintendent of Police Kalyan Sarkar and senior officers, visited the crime scene to assess the situation. A special investigative team has been constituted to ensure a thorough and expedited probe.

The victim’s body was sent to Chunchura District Sadar Hospital on Monday morning for an autopsy. Meanwhile, the police have announced their intention to present the accused in Chunchura District Court, seeking remand for further interrogation.

The accused neighbor has a history of troubling behavior, according to locals. Allegedly married twice, he was known to shuttle between Chopa and his in-laws’ residence in Baichi. Villagers also accused him of theft and previous acts of cruelty, including mistreatment of animals. The victim's father claimed that, despite these warning signs, no one had imagined he could commit such a heinous crime.

Outraged villagers and the minor's family are demanding the severest punishment for the accused. “This is unforgivable. We demand the harshest penalty to ensure such crimes never happen again,” a local resident declared.

As the investigation unfolds, the region grieves the loss of an innocent life, and the call for justice grows louder. The incident has heightened concerns about child safety in rural areas.
