Employees of Illegal Practices in Chinsurah Housing Scheme

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, November 22, 2024, Hooghly :  In a scathing attack on government officials, Trinamool Congress MLA Asit Majumder accused local government employees of engaging in illegal practices regarding the housing scheme for the poor in the Chinsurah Assembly constituency. Majumder claimed that some employees had illegally excluded eligible residents from the list of beneficiaries, a move he said was harming the very people the scheme was meant to help.

Speaking to the press on the third day of his public outreach campaign, Majumder expressed his frustration, stating that several individuals who were rightfully eligible for the housing assistance had been omitted from the list. "These government employees are engaging in illegal activities by removing names of those who should receive the benefits," he said. "The Chief Minister has always assured that all eligible beneficiaries will receive their due, but some corrupt officials are interfering with the process."

Majumder, who has been actively engaging with the public in the Chinsurah area, alleged that the names of deserving residents were being replaced with fictitious entries. "They are putting names like 'Ram Shyam' and 'Jadu Madhu' instead of genuine beneficiaries. This is a clear attempt to manipulate the system," he added.

The MLA further stated that the head of the Kodalia Panchayat had also visited homes where the names had been wrongly excluded. He expressed concern that those who genuinely needed the homes would face serious difficulties if they were not included in the list. "If these poor people are deprived of their rights, there will be a large-scale protest against these government employees," Majumder warned.

Majumder recounted his own efforts to rectify the situation, explaining that he had personally sent five names to the Block Development Officer (BDO) for inclusion in the housing list. However, he claimed the BDO had responded by saying it would be difficult to include the names if they were not already on the official list. "If the names are not on the list, who is to blame?" Majumder asked. "This situation needs to be addressed immediately, and those responsible for these discrepancies should be suspended."

The Trinamool MLA emphasized that the housing scheme, which is intended to provide shelter for the poor, must be transparent and accessible to all eligible residents. He called on the district administration to take immediate action against the officials involved in the alleged malpractice, warning that public unrest would grow if the situation was not resolved swiftly.

As the controversy over the housing list continues to simmer, it remains to be seen how the government will address these accusations and ensure that the rights of the people are protected.
