 Assam Nepali Sahitya Sabha Announces 2024 Literary Awards  

ANSS International Literary Awardee Dr. Debi Nepal and ANSS National Literary Awardee Dr. Khemraj Nepal

Nanda Kirati Dewan, KalimNews, November 12, 2024, Guwahati: The Assam Nepali Sahitya Sabha has officially announced the winners of its prestigious literary awards, which will be presented at the upcoming central session of the Sabha. Among the recipients, Dr. Devi Nepal, a distinguished writer and researcher from Nepal, will be honored with the Niru Sharma Parajuli Memorial International Literary Award. Dr. Khemraj Nepal, a renowned writer and researcher from Biswanath district in Assam, will receive the Korn Bahadur Chetri Memorial National Literary Award.

The Niru Sharma Parajuli Memorial International Literary Award includes a cash prize of ₹60,000, a certificate, and other prizes, while the Karna Bahadur Chhetri Memorial National Literary Award carries a cash prize of ₹50,000, along with a certificate and several other awards.

In addition to the two major awards, the Sabha has announced a range of other honors. Among the notable recipients are:

  • Assam Nepali Sahitya Sabha Award: Nab Sapkota, a prominent Nepali writer from Guwahati.
  • Haribhakta Katuwal Memorial Award: Narayan Pradhan of Morigaon for his literary work Sahipatya.
  • Pushpalal Upadhyay Memorial Award: Krishna Neel Karki of Biswanath for his 2023 poetry collection Kobitake Miramire Jhorir (Poetry that Falls in Glittering Showers).
  • Tankanath Upadhyay Memorial Story Award: Hari Luitel of Biswanath for his short story collection Saptapadi.
  • Janaklal Poudel Memorial Literary Dawn Award: Bimal Pradhan of Hojai for his poetry book Birbahadurko Gunaso (The Grief of Brave Men).
  • Bridhilal Bhandari Memorial Social Service Award: DB Sonar, a prominent social worker from Tinsukia.
  • Tarannath Shandilya Non- Nepali Literary Award: Bhakta Singh Thakuri of Hailakandi.
  • Prem Singh Subedi Drama Ratna Award: Ram Upadhyaya of Odalguri for his play Afnai Gaon Farki Ae (Returned to Our Village).
  • Keshav Sharma Memorial Children’s Literature Award: Dr. Daivaki Devi Timshina of Sonitpur for her children’s novel Dushta Rajkumar (The Wicked Prince).
  • Hariprasad Ghimire Memorial Translation Literature Award: Rewatimohan Timshina of Routar for his translated book Kapalakundala.
  • Shivlal Shastri Memorial Criticism Award: Naina Adhikari of Khetari, Kamrup for his critique book Sahitya Srijanaka Bankhiru.
  • Prabhu Ram Karki Memorial Youth Literature Award: Hiranya Poudel of Tamulpur for his poetry book Bisangatat Samayko Kobita (Poetry of the Disordered Time).
  • Reshmi Prasad-Phulmaya Memorial Women Creators Award: Kunj Devi Upadhyaya of Sivasagar.
  • Assam Nepali Sahitya Sabha Community Award: Rikut Pulami of Golaghat for his book Lahou Chipol, written in the Mogher language.
  • Divya Devi Memorial Journalism Award: Subhash Biswas, the editor and director of the leading Assamese weekly Dekhbar.
  • Kewali Jamuna Chedai Memorial Culture Award: Kalashree Binod Khanal, a renowned cultural worker and actor.

Janaklal Poudel Memorial Literary Dawn Award: Bimal Pradhan 

Additionally, three young writers—Puja Upadhyaya (Lakhimpur), Jamuna Dahal (West Karbi Anglong), and Prakash Koirala (Baksa)—will receive the Youth Creator Awards for the years 2021, 2022, and 2023.

In recognition of the outstanding achievements in the past three years, the Best District Award will be presented to West Karbi Anglong district, and the Best Branch Award will be given to the Nikhachir Himali Mahila Manch branch.

The awards will be presented during the central session of the Assam Nepali Sahitya Sabha, scheduled for December 5-8 in Sarupathar, Golaghat district. The event will be attended by Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma and Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, as part of the Sabha's Golden Jubilee Closing Ceremony.

This announcement was made in a press release issued by the Sabha's President, Durga Khativada, and General Secretary, Madan Thapa.
