Don't Miss

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, November 26, 2024, West Midnapore: While the state of West Bengal grapples with controversy surrounding the role of Civic Volunteers, one individual has emerged as a beacon of compassion and humanity. Guruprasad Bhandari, a Civic Volunteer from Pirakata, West Midnapore, recently displayed extraordinary kindness by helping a mentally unstable youth in distress, o
ffering a powerful reminder of the positive impact volunteers can have in their communities.

On the night of the incident, Guruprasad was returning home after completing his duties when he came across a young man trapped in a cordon at Garmal Bazar square in the Pirakata police post area. Upon speaking with the individual, Guruprasad learned that the youth, identified as Sujan Malik (27), hailing from Bhatar More village in Arambagh, Hooghly district, was mentally unstable and appeared lost.

Understanding the gravity of the situation, Guruprasad immediately took action to ensure Sujan's safety. With the support of local villagers, he arranged for the young man to spend the night in a secure place, providing him with food and shelter. Guruprasad also reached out to his contacts in the Arambagh police station to locate Sujan's family and inform them of his whereabouts.

The next morning, Sujan's father, Bhomra Malik, along with his brother-in-law, arrived at the Pirakata Police Post to collect him. The family expressed their deep gratitude to both Guruprasad and the police for their efforts in bringing Sujan back home safely. Sujan was reunited with his family at the police post, where he was handed over by OC Amit Chatterjee of Pirakata Police Post. The emotional reunion was marked by heartfelt thanks from the family for the community's support.

In a time when the role of Civic Volunteers is often questioned, Guruprasad Bhandari’s actions stand out as a testament to the true spirit of volunteerism. His quick thinking, compassion, and willingness to go above and beyond for a fellow human being serve as a reminder of the potential for good that exists within every community.
