Tragedy Strikes Again in Jhalda: Mysterious Death of Congress Leader's Widow Raises Eyebrows

According to local reports, Purnima Kandu was found unconscious at her home on Station Road in Jhalda city around 11:15 PM. She was quickly transported to the Jhalda Block 1 Primary Health Center, where doctors pronounced her dead upon arrival. The sudden nature of her passing has left family and community members in a state of disbelief and concern.

Purulia District Congress President Nepal Mahato and other party leaders rushed to the health center upon hearing the distressing news. Mahato expressed his shock, stating, "I don’t even know how the death occurred. She seemed fine until the evening, and her children were not at home when it happened. The doctors indicated she was brought in dead, but they too are puzzled by the circumstances surrounding her passing."

An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the cause of death, and local authorities are investigating the matter further. This tragic event comes on the heels of the violent murder of her husband, Tapan Kandu, a prominent Congress councilor who was shot dead by assailants near Gokulnagar village on March 13, 2022. The assassination sent shockwaves through the community and led to heightened political tensions in the region. Following Tapan Kandu's death, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) took over the case, resulting in the arrest of seven individuals, with the trial still ongoing.
