YAWAN GURUNG, EOI, MIRIK, OCT 23, 2024: In a bid to boost tourism and promote Mirik as a premier wedding destination, the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) is set to launch helicopter tourism in the picturesque town, offering breathtaking views of the Himalayas.

According to Norden Sherpa, Executive Member of the GTA Tourism Department, the initiative aims to provide stunning aerial views of Mt. Kanchenjunga, Mirik Lake, and the surrounding tea gardens, showcasing the region's natural beauty.

"We want to promote Mirik as a wedding destination with the helicopter services, along with offering scenic helicopter rides," Sherpa said. "The GTA is currently in the initial stages of planning and seeking partnerships with private agencies to commence operations. This will not only boost tourism but also generate revenue for the local community."

The helipad, constructed in 1991 by former DGHC Chairman Subash Ghising, will be utilized to generate revenue and promote the region. Sherpa emphasized that the GTA is committed to developing Mirik's infrastructure to support the growth of tourism.

With this innovative initiative, Mirik is poised to become a hotspot for adventure seekers, nature lovers, and those seeking a unique perspective on the region's breathtaking natural beauty.
