Darjeeling’s Sejal Rai from Mungpoo Honored with Gold Medal for Excellence in Nursing


D.K. Waiba, KalimNews, Kalimpong, October 25, 2024 : Sejal Rai, a talented student from Mungpoo Cinchona Plantation in Darjeeling district, has been awarded the esteemed Eshwaramma Gold Medal for achieving the highest marks in her Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) Nursing degree. 


Sejal recently completed her four-year B.Sc Nursing course at the Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences, College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences in Bengaluru. Distinguished for her academic excellence and her dedication to the values of human service, Sejal’s hard work was recognized with this gold medal.

The award was presented during the institute’s graduation ceremony held on October 24 at Dhanvantari Hall, SSSIHMS in Bengaluru, where Vandita Sharma, Retired Additional Chief Secretary and Development Commissioner of Karnataka, honored Sejal as the chief guest.

Sejal, the youngest daughter of Mahesh Rai and Suvarna Tamang (Rai), began her education at Siddhartha Memorial School and St. Joseph’s School in Mungpoo. She continued her studies at Loreto Convent, Darjeeling, for her ICSE, and then at Nirmala Convent, Siliguri, for her ISC. In 2019, she joined the prestigious B.Sc Nursing program at Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences, Whitefield, Bengaluru, where she excelled throughout her studies.

Reflecting on her achievement, Sejal expressed deep gratitude: “I am incredibly honored and overjoyed to receive the Eshwaramma Gold Medal for academic excellence and the Sri Sathya Sai Education in Human Values. 

This recognition is deeply meaningful to me, and I am profoundly grateful to Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba and to everyone who supported me in this journey. 

This honor is a testament to my hard work and the faith placed in me by my family.” She added, 
“My parents, who have been pillars of strength, and my sisters, my role models, have been instrumental in this achievement. I am truly overwhelmed with gratitude.”

Sejal's exemplary performance brings immense pride to her family and hometown and serves as a source of inspiration for young people pursuing careers in healthcare and nursing.
