
Nine from Kalimpong District Selected to Represent the State Karate Team at the Upcoming 4th East India Karate Championship 2024

KalimNews, September 26, 2024, Kalimpong: In a significant achievement for local sports, nine talented karate players from Kalimpong District have been selected to represent the West Bengal State Karate Team at the upcoming KIO Zonal National "4th East India Karate Championship-2024."
The championship is set to take place from September 27 to 29, 2024, in Patna, Bihar, organized by the East India Karate Association and hosted by the State Karate Association of Bihar, which is affiliated with the Karate India Organisation. The team will compete under the banner of the Karate-Do Association of Bengal, recognized by the Bengal Olympic Association.
The selected athletes from Kalimpong District include Prasumi Rai (Paramount School, 9 yrs, Female, below 30kg), Lavanya Singh (St. Stephen's Academy, Kaffer, 10 yrs, Female, below 30kg), Nima Norbu Biswakarma (St. Stephen's Academy, Kaffer, 10 yrs, Male, below 40kg), Rithwik Bahadur Chitri (St. Stephen's Academy, Kaffer, 12 yrs, Male, below 40kg), Sayog Giri (Rockvale Academy, 13 yrs, Boys, below 50kg), Piyush Lal (Grace English School, Pedong, 13 yrs, Boys, below 55kg), Nirman Rai (Saptashri Gyanpeeth, Cadet 14-15 yrs, Male, below 70kg), Pratik Rai (S.U.M.I), Priyadarshan Thapa (Rockvale Academy, Junior 16-17 yrs, Boys, below 50kg).
Kalimpong District Karate-Do Association President Zion Lepcha, General Secretary Shihan Sushan Thapa, and Vice President Binod Rai expressed their pride in the selected athletes and extended their best wishes for success at the championship. This event marks a pivotal moment for the athletes as they represent their district and state on a larger platform.
