
Minor Sexually Assaulted in Katwa, Accused Arrested Using Drone Surveillance

KalimNews, September 15, 2024, Katwa : In a distressing incident that has shaken the local community, a 4-year-old girl was sexually assaulted in the Katwa area of East Burdwan district. The incident occurred a week ago, when a young child was playing alone near an agricultural field close to her home. Taking advantage of the situation, a local laborer named Simanto Majhi allegedly dragged her to his house and brutally assaulted her.
East Burdhaman Police sources stated that the child returned home, injured and traumatized, and informed her parents about the assault. Angered by the incident, villagers gathered and stormed Simanto Majhi’s house. However, by that time, the accused had already fled.
A police complaint was filed later that evening, and a large-scale search for the accused began. According to information shared by the police on their official Facebook page, Simanto was spotted entering a forest near his ancestral home in Akaihat, Katwa, in the afternoon. The police, with the assistance of local residents, surrounded the area. Drones were deployed to track the accused’s movements, and dragon lights were used to aid in the search.

The police cordoned off the entire jungle with the help of local residents and used drones equipped with dragon lights to locate the accused. After hours of extensive searching, Simanto was found hiding on the roof of a dilapidated house.
The police have assured that they will complete the investigation into the case with wartime speed and ensure the maximum punishment for the accused.
