Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, September 19, 2024, Kathmandu : Madhesh United has revealed its roster for the inaugural Everest Women's Volleyball League, set to take place from September 30 to October 5 at the Dasarath Stadium Covered Hall in Tripureshwar, Kathmandu. The league, organized by Infinity Dreams Pvt Ltd, marks the first franchise-based volleyball competition in Nepal, with six teams competing to make history.
Madhesh United, representing the Madhesh province, has selected 12 players for the tournament, including 8 Nepali athletes and 3 international recruits. A unique aspect of the selection process is that each team is required to include one player from their local region, chosen through a talent hunt. To fulfill this requirement, Madhesh United will host a talent hunt program at Gyanada Academy in Birganj on October 4, aiming to discover emerging talent from the Madhesh region.
Head Coach Bharat Yadav will oversee the talent hunt, where one standout player will be selected to join the team. This player will have the opportunity to train and compete alongside both national and international stars, gaining invaluable experience at a professional level. Notably, Niruta Thagunna, a member of the Nepali national volleyball team, is Madhesh United's marquee player for the league.
The Everest Women's Volleyball League is also promoting the sport through a trophy tour, with the league's running trophy set to visit Birganj on October 4. This initiative aims to raise awareness of volleyball and foster excitement among fans across the regions represented by the participating teams.
Madhesh United's roster includes a mix of seasoned and emerging talent: Nepali players Niruta Thagunna, Sangam Mahato, Shantikala Tamang, Pooja Tharu, Jasana Mahato, Hira Budha KC, Elisa Manandhar, and Ashika Chettri. The three foreign players, Kalinova Yevgenia, Yosra Zeramdini, and Jini Kovat Shaji, add an international dimension to the team, boosting its competitive edge.
Madhesh United CEO Sangya Shrestha expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming season, emphasizing the importance of both local talent development and international exposure. Key figures from the team’s management, including Director Rohit Agarwal and officials Anuj Rungta, Dipesh Agarwal, and Sanjay Agarwal, were also present during the announcement.
The Everest Women's Volleyball League promises to be a landmark event for Nepali volleyball, bringing attention to the sport and offering a platform for women athletes to shine on both national and international stages.
