Haripal Incident Sparks Protests Amidst Statewide Unrest

Baby Chakraborty, KalimNews, September 8, 2024, Hooghly : The ongoing protests against the rape and murder of a student from RG Kar College have cast a shadow over Haripal, where a new and troubling incident has emerged. Amid the statewide unrest, a student in Haripal has alleged a rape, but initial investigations have raised doubts about the veracity of these claims.

On Friday night around 10 PM, a minor was found unconscious with torn clothes near Mahadev Cold Storage, close to the Haripal police station. Local women who discovered the student provided assistance and alerted the authorities. The police arrived promptly, and the minor was taken to Haripal Rural Hospital for treatment.

Upon regaining consciousness, the student reported being abducted by four individuals in a white car while returning from tuition at Singur. The student claimed the assailants threatened her with harm to her mother if she reported the incident. She also described being dropped off at Haripal station and coerced into walking through the local market.

However, the police have noted several inconsistencies in the student's statement and found no evidence of rape in the physical examination. This has led to significant public skepticism and unrest.

In response to the incident, members of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) and the Student Federation of India (SFI) gathered in front of the Haripal police station, demanding a thorough investigation and justice for the victim.

The situation remains tense as the community grapples with the impact of recent events and seeks clarity on the latest allegations.
