KalimNews, 17 August 2024, Kalimpong: The latest weather update reveals significant developments in the Bay of Bengal during the next seven days. Light to heavy rainfall is expected across most places in all districts of North Bengal.
A low pressure area currently positioned over the Northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining regions of West Bengal and Bangladesh has now shifted to south Bangladesh and its neighboring regions.
The associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 7.6 km above mean sea level and tilts southwestwards with height. Forecast models indicate that this system will move slowly north-northwestwards, becoming a Well-marked Low Pressure Area over Bangladesh and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal by the 19th of August.
Forecast models predict that this system will move slowly in a north-northwest direction, eventually tracking west-northwestwards across Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, and adjacent areas of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh over the next 3-4 days.
The Monsoon trough is currently positioned at mean sea level and stretches from Bikaner to Vanasthali, Shivpuri, Sidhi, Ranchi, and then to the center of the low-pressure area over south Bangladesh and its vicinity. Additionally, a trough extends from west Assam to north Odisha at altitudes between 9.8 and 12.6 km above mean sea level.
