Traffic Restrictions Imposed in Kalimpong District: Tista- Darjeeling road closed, Passenger vehicles from Chitrey and Seti Jhora via NH 10 restricted

KalimNews, Kalimpong, 3 August 2024 : Following numerous complaints about severe damage and accidents on internal roads in Kalimpong District, which are serving as alternative routes for the damaged NH 10 stretch, and additional reports from GREF, PWD (Roads), KED, GED, NHIDCL, and WBSRDA regarding significant road damage along the Reshi-Pedong—Algarah—Lava—Gorubathan route towards Siliguri, partial modifications have been imposed on current traffic restrictions for public safety.

District Magistrate Balasubramanian T,  has issued directives to restrict and divert traffic along NH 10 and internal roads in Kalimpong District starting August 4, 2024, until further notice.

Key Traffic Restrictions:

Heavy Vehicles: 

Movement of all heavy vehicles (laden weight above 8 tonne) is restricted:

From Chitrey to Seti Jhora and vice versa via NH 10.

From Rabi Jhora to Teesta Bazaar on SH 12.

Routes from Gorubathan Pandara to Reshi via Lava, Algarah, and Pedong, and from Gorubathan Pandara to Kalimpong via Lava and Algarah, remain closed for such vehicles until further notice.

SH 12 Closure:

SH 12 from Rabi Jhora to Teesta Bazaar (towards Darjeeling via Pesok) is closed to all types of vehicles due to road subsidence at Deogram and Krishnagram areas.

Passenger Vehicles:

Movement of all passenger vehicles, including small passenger vehicles, is restricted between Chitrey and Seti Jhora via NH 10 until further notice.

Light Motor Vehicles:

Light Motor Vehicles (private, official, and emergency vehicles) are permitted to travel from Chitrey to Seti Jhora and vice versa via NH 10 from 6 am to 6 pm daily. 

Single-Lane Traffic: 

 Single-lane traffic will be maintained at: Selfi Dara, Birik Dara, 27th Mile, Likhu Bhir, Andheri .

Alternative Routes for Goods Vehicles: 

Goods vehicles, buses, and other heavy vehicles (up to 8 tonnes) can travel round the clock via Reshi—Pedong—Algarah—Lava—Gorubathan to Siliguri, following the stated restrictions. 

Alternative Routes for Small Vehicles: 

Small vehicles may alternatively travel from Rangpoo to Siliguri via Munsong, 17th Mile, Algarah, Lava, and Gorubathan. Vehicles from Kalimpong to Siliguri may also use the route via Relli, Samthar, and Panbu.
Necessary restrictions at Rangpoo Check post, Reshi Check post, MeIli Bazaar, Chitrey, Rabi Jhora, Teesta Bazar, 29" Mile and at District border along NH 10 stretches shall be imposed by police (Traffic) for facilitating the route diversion. Any necessary Temporary restrictions/ diversions for the above mentioned movement plan on case to case basis of all type of vehicles may he imposed by the Police in consultation with the undersigned to ensure the safety of general public, if needed.
