ED Summons TMC MLA for Questioning on Alleged Irregularities in School Job Recruitment

Don't Miss

PTI & Agencies, Kolkata, Aug 4, 2024 :  The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has issued a summons to Trinamool Congress MLA Jiban Krishna Saha for questioning in connection with its ongoing investigation into alleged irregularities in school job recruitment in West Bengal, an official said on Sunday.

Saha, who was arrested by the CBI last year for his alleged links to the scam and later released, has been asked to appear before the ED sleuths at the agency's Kolkata office on Monday, he said.

"He has been asked to come to our office on Monday morning for questioning into the school jobs recruitment scam," the ED officer told PTI.

Incidentally, the central probe agency had earlier questioned Saha's wife in connection with the scam.

The CBI had arrested Saha in April 2023 following days of grilling. He was released in May this year and is currently out on bail.

According to sources, Mr. Saha has been asked to appear at the ED office on Monday morning at the CGO complex office in Salt Lake. The Central agency wants to quiz him for his money transfers related to the case.

It is not clear if he would respond to the summons or not. The TMC MLA was earlier arrested by the CBI in the same case on April 17 last year from his Andi residence in Murshidabad.

He had then tried to save himself by throwing his two cell phones in his pond to destroy evidence. The CBI however recovered both the phones later and retrieved his call details.

On May 14 this year, Mr Saha was granted bail by the Supreme Court after spending around one year behind bars. The ED earlier questioned his wife Tagari Saha and stumbled upon some discrepancies about a number of money transfers.
