Dev Raj Patna, TT, 19.08.24 : Protests have intensified over the alleged gang rape and murder of a minor Dalit girl in Muzaffarpur district of Bihar.
On Sunday, clashes broke out as Dalit activists raided the house of one of the accused and the police used force to bring the situation under control.
The CPI-ML and its arms — All India Progressive Women’s Association (AIPWA) and Insaaf Manch — organised protest marches in several cities in the state and condemned the silence of the BJP and the JDU on the issue.
“The BJP and the JDU are talking about the rape and murder of the Calcutta doctor but keeping quiet over the gang rape and murder of the minor Dalit girl in Muzaffarpur. The administration is trying to hold the deceased girl responsible for the crime,” AIPWA general secretary Mina Tiwari said, demanding ₹10 lakh compensation to the victim’s family.
The police have arrested the main accused, Sanjay Rai, and his associate Virendra Rai.
Clashes broke out after a group of Dalit activists vandalised Virendra’s house under Paroo police station.
“Some people led by one Golden Das of some Bahujan Party vandalised the house of one of the accused. The police used force to disperse them. Golden and his seven associates have been detained,” Muzaffarpur senior superintendent of police (SSP) Rakesh Kumar told The Telegraph.
The SSP said the post-mortem report has not revealed any injuries to the victim’s private parts and the vaginal swab test has not yielded any trace of spermatozoa (male reproductive cells).
