K.M. Rakesh, TT, Bengaluru, 19.08.24 : A college student here was allegedly sexually assaulted by an unidentified biker she had hitchhiked to return home from a pub in upscale Koramangala in the early hours of Sunday.
According to preliminary information gathered by police, the 21-year-old final-year student of a city college, who hails from another state, had sought a lift around 1am.
The man who agreed to drop her, however, took a detour and sexually assaulted her. The alleged incident took place between 1am and 1.30am near Hosur main road in the HSR Layout police station limits.
Raman Gupta, additional commissioner of police (east), told reporters that the biker took her to an isolated spot off Hosur road and forced himself on her. “She has been admitted to a private hospital where her condition is stable,” Gupta said.
The police have formed five teams to nab the attacker, who got away although the survivor’s friends reached the spot upon receiving a distress call from her mobile phone that provided the location.
The accused was seen only in his trousers and had scratch marks on his face when the survivor’s friends reached the spot.
The HSR police station has registered a case under Section 64 (punishment for rape) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Gupta said that he and other senior officers visited the crime spot and later spoke to the survivor and her relatives at the hospital.
He said the attacker had acted alone and would be arrested soon since the five teams had been working since early on Sunday after the incident was reported.
