With Narendra Modi in Russia, Kalimpong hopes Urgen Tamang will return
YOWAN MOTHAY, EOI, KALIMPONG, JULY 9, 2024 : After the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Russia, there is hope that Urgen Tamang, who is in the war zone in Ukraine for the Russian army, will return home to Kalimpong.
A PTI report from Moscow during the day said Russia had broadly heeded to India’s call to end the recruitment of Indians as support staff in Russian military and ensure repatriation of those still working in the force .
Urgen Tamang's wife Ambika Tamang has requested the Centre to bring home Urgen Tamang. She has also appealed to Darjeeling Lok Sabha M. P. Raju Bista for help.
She has said that her husband has been fighting as a Russian soldier since January in the war between Russia and Ukraine and has demanded that the Indian government should bring him home.
Video of Urgen Tamang's conversation with Kalimpong Municipality Administrator Ravi Pradhan has been released.
Ravi Pradhan has said, he has been working continuously since the beginning to bring Urgen Tamang back home and is in contact with Urgen Tamang.
He added, everyone is trying to bring Urgen Tamang back home. Urgen Tamang is an Indian ex-serviceman.
Since last January, he has been on the frontline in the war between Russia and Ukraine on the side of Russia. He had gone to Russia in search of a job but got involved with the Russian army in the war
