 Heavy rainfall activity over north Bengal and likely increase in intensity from 10th July,2024 over districts of north Bengal.



KalimNews, Kalimpong, 8 July 2024 : The Monsoon trough at mean sea level passes through Jaisalmer, Chittorgarh, Raisen, Mandla, Raipur,Kalingapatnam and thence southeastwards to central Bay of Bengal and extends upto 3.1 km above mean sea level. Yesterday's cyclonic circulation over Westcentral Bay of Bengal off south Andhra Pradesh coast now lies over Westcentral Bay of Bengal & adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal off north Andhra Pradesh coast between 3.1 & 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height.
In view of above meteorological condition, Heavy rainfall activity over north Bengal and likely increase in intensity from 10th July,2024. districts of North Bengal.

Heavy rainfall (7-11 cm) occurred at one or two places over Jalpaiguri district of North Bengal.

Possible Impact for Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Coochbehar, Alipurduar, Darjeeling districts of North Bengal
1. Landslide in hilly areas in the districts of Darjeeling and Kalimpong.
2. Rise in water level in rivers like Teesta, Jaldhaka, Sankosh and Torsa.
3. Reduction in visibility during intense spell of rain.
4. Damage to horticulture and standing crops & vegetables in the field.
5. Water logging in low lying areas and possibility of flash flood in some areas, damages to kutcha houses and kutcha roads, inundation of underpass roads, low lying areas roads etc.
Action suggested:
1. Avoid movement in landslide prone and water logging areas and avoid staying at vulnerable kutcha houses/structures. Keep domestic animals in safe place.
2. Do not use fertilizer & pesticides as it may wash out.
3. Movement of traffic may be regulated judiciously.
4. Take shelter in safe place during thunderstorm/intense spell of rain activity.
