EOI, SILIGURI, JULY 22, 2024 : A nine-year-old child died of dengue in Siliguri in a nursing home on Hillcart Road on Sunday. According to a source from the family and health department, the dead child's name is Zaina Khatun.
The house is in Swaminagar, ward number 7. She was suffering from fever for more than four days. She was admitted to the nursing home on Saturday as her physical condition deteriorated. Prior to that, the dengue NS-1 test was positive. This was the first dengue death in the city this year.
The Siliguri Municipal Corporation has been claiming that 30 people have been affected by dengue so far this year. That number is lower than other years. However, experts believe that this number is actually higher.
Because, in many cases it is claimed that testing is not being done. Allegedly, in Ward No. 7, the area where the dead child's house is located, garbage accumulates.
Residents complain that water is accumulating in plastic containers. Nothing is done to clean it all or to spray the area. Multiple infections have been found in wards like 5 and 46.Infection is also increasing in Matigara near the city.
