Eight crore new jobs created in last 3-4 years: PM Modi

The Week, July 13, 2024 : Launching and laying foundation stone for projects worth Rs 29,000 crore in road, railway and port sectors in Mumbai, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said eight crore new jobs were created in the country in the last three to four years.

Citing a recent Reserve Bank of India report on employment, Modi took a swipe at the opposition and said this figure has silenced those spreading fake narrative on jobs.

"Those who spread fake narratives are enemies of investment, infrastructure development and enemies of the country's growth. Their every policy is about betraying youth and stall employment. Now they are getting exposed as people are rejecting their lies," he said.

"Skill development and employment are needed in the country and our government is working in this direction,” the prime minister further claimed.

Modi said his aim was to make Maharashtra the world's big financial powerhouse and to make Mumbai a global fintech capital, adding that the upcoming infrastructure projects in and around Mumbai will boost connectivity of the city with nearby areas.

In Mumbai, Modi laid the foundation stone for Thane-Borivali Tunnel Project worth Rs 16,600 crore. This twin tube tunnel will be passing below Sanjay Gandhi National Park which will create direct connection between Western Express Highway at Borivali side and Thane Ghodbander Road at Thane side. Total length of the project is 11.8 km. It will reduce the journey from Thane to Borivali by 12 km with a saving of about one hour in travel time, said a PMO statement.

Modi also laid the foundation stone for the tunnel work at Goregaon Mulund Link Road (GMLR) Project worth over Rs 6,300 crore. The 6.65km GMLR envisages road connectivity from Western Express Highway at Goregaon to Eastern Express Highway at Mulund. 

Another projects launched by the prime minister in Mumbai included Kalyan Yard Remodelling and Gati Shakti Multi Modal Cargo Terminal. The remodelling of Kalyan Yard, is expected to increase its capacity to handle more trains, reducing congestion and improving the efficiency of train operations. The Gati Shakti MultiModal Cargo Terminal, to be built in an area of more than 32600 sq mtrs in  in Navi Mumbai, will provide additional employment opportunities to the local people and will cater as an additional terminal for handling Cement and other commodities, the PMO said.

Modi dedicated to the nation new platforms at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus and extension of platforms 10 and 11 at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus Station. He also launched the Mukhyamantri Yuva Karya Prashikshan Yojana with an outlay of around Rs. 5600 crore.

The prime minister later visited the Indian Newspaper Society (INS) Secretariat at Bandra Kurla Complex and inaugurated the INS Towers.
