District Administration Halts Land Ownership Boards in Gorkhaland Region

KalimNews, Kalimpong, 27 July 2024 : In a significant policy shift, the district administration has announced that it will cease placing land ownership boards starting today. This decision follows a high-level meeting held today between the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration and the administrators of Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts.

During the meeting held today in the presence of the Anit Thapa, Chief Executive of Gorkhaland Territorial Administration, his associate Sabhasads, Secretaries, Dr. Preeti Goyal, District Magistrate of Darjeeling and Balasubramanian T, District Magistrate of Kalimpong and others, it was resolved that from today onwards, no new land ownership boards will be installed, and existing boards will be removed. This move aims to streamline land management and address ongoing disputes regarding land ownership.

To better identify government land, a comprehensive plan will be developed involving gram panchayats, panchayat samittees, legislative assembly members, and the relevant Block Development Officers. This collaborative approach is intended to ensure accurate and effective land identification.

Furthermore, it has been decided that all government activities within the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration's jurisdiction will proceed only with coordination and approval from the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration. This new directive is expected to enhance administrative efficiency and clarity in governmental operations within the region.
