Sikkim's Chief Minister, Prem Singh Tamang, met with Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, to discuss post-flood rehabilitation and future support. The meeting highlighted the need for continued aid to restore damaged infrastructure in Sikkim.
Sujal Pradhan, India Today NE, Jun 23, 2024 : Chief Minister of Sikkim, Prem Singh Tamang, met with the Union Home Minister, Shri Amit Shah, at the Ministry of Home Affairs in New Delhi on June 23.
During the meeting, the Hon'ble Chief Minister congratulated Amit Shah on being sworn in for a second term and commended the significant progress achieved under his leadership. He expressed gratitude for the support following the devastating flash floods in Sikkim on October 3-4, acknowledging the release of funds from the National Disaster Response Fund.
The Hon'ble Chief Minister also appreciated the swift assessment by the Inter-Ministerial Central Team and the comprehensive Post-Disaster Need Assessment (PDNA) report, which has been submitted to the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Emphasizing the need for continued support for permanent restoration of damaged infrastructure, the Hon'ble Chief Minister requested further grants, highlighting the importance of Amit Shah's leadership in rebuilding Sikkim and enhancing its resilience against future disasters.
EOI : In a meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on Sunday, Chief Minister of Sikkim Prem Singh Tamang emphasized on the need for continued support for the permanent restoration of damaged infrastructure in the State and requested for the release of additional grants.
He conveyed gratitude for the support of the Union Home Minister following the devastating flash floods in Sikkim on October 3 and 4 last and acknowledged the prompt release of funds from the National Disaster Response Fund, which was crucial for immediate relief and restoration efforts.
The Chief Minister also thanked the Union Home Minister for the swift assessment conducted by the Inter-Ministerial Central Team. He briefly discussed with the Union Home Minister the Post-Disaster Need Assessment report, which outlined the funds required for comprehensive recovery.
The report had already been submitted to the Union Home Ministry. The Union Home Minister chaired a review meeting in Delhi during the day on the preparedness for flood management during the monsoon.
He emphasized on the optimum use of satellite imagery provided by the Indian Space Research Organization for flood and water management. He also took stock of the preparations to deal with Glacial Lake Outburst Flood and said efforts should be made to upgrade the forecast system of water level of rivers for better flood management.
