
Section 144 promulgated, sale of liquor prohibited in Kalimpong district and restriction imposed on vehicular movement in Kalimpong town during next 48 hours
KalimNews, Kalimpong, 24 April 2024: Balasubramanian T. the District Magistrate of Kalimpong District and the District Election Officer has promulgated 144 section in the polling areas of the district on 25 and 26 April. For maintaining peace and order the DM in an official order has stated that the assembly of five or more person in the areas around 200 mtr of the polling areas is prohibited. Carrying of lathis and dangerous weapons is also prohibited.
DM has also issued a traffic advisory with restriction order in the Kalimpong town from 25 April to 27 April. In a government circular the DM has mentioned that in view of the the Parliamentary General Elections 2024 to be held at Kalimpong District on 26th of April 2024 along with other districts, restriction is imposed as detailed below for smooth conduction of Election. Restriction in parking and diverting temporarily the movement of all types of vehicles within Kalimpong Town on and from 6 am of 25 April to 10 am of 27 April 2024 as per the following arrangements is made.
Vehicular restriction is imposed allowing only one way traffic to all vehicles from Damber Chowk to SUMI School via CST Fatak (Tirpai Road) then from SUMI to Damber Chowk via KD Pradhan Road from 6 am of 25 April 2024 to 10 am of 27 April 2024.
It has further stated that no public vehicles except poll vehicle sall be allowed to ply from Damber Chowk to SUMI School via CST Fatak (Tirpai Road) and from Damber Chowk to SUMI School via KD Pradhan Road (Hospital Road) from 5 pm of 26 April to 10 am of 27 April.
It has also declared no parking zone for all vehicles except vehicles engaged on election duty in the following areas: - Main Road. Mani Road. Ongden Road. Damber Chowk. Kalimpong Bus Stand. K D Pradhan Road. CST Fatak (Tirpai Road).
At the same time in another circular the DM has ordered total sale of liquor is closed on 25 April to 26 April, in the district. The retail licensed premises for the sale of India Made Liquor (Country Spirit), Coloured / Flavoured Spirit, Pachwai, Tari, 50° UP Rum, Beer, Bhang, Foreign Liquor through India Made Liquor Off and On shop, FL Off Shops, FL ON shops and Bars attached to Hotels, Restaurants, Pubs, Club, Cinema Halls, Tourist Lodges, any other places of Public Resorts or Entertainments, Dak Bungalows, Railway Refreshment Rooms, Dining Cars and Steamers etc. of Kalimpong District shall remain closed in the following manner during the General Elections to the Lok Sabha, 2024.
Shops with all retail licensed premises, under the territorial jurisdiction of Kalimpong District shall remain closed during the period of forty eight hours ending with the hours fixed for conclusion of the poll i.e from 6 pm of 24 April till closure of poll on 26 April 2024 or if required on the day of Re- poll.
This will be implemented also on 4 June all retail licensed premises, as mentioned above, under the territorial jurisdiction of Kalimpong District shall remain closed during the day of counting of votes.
