Central security withdrawn for B. P. Bajgain, MLA Kurseong and an independent candidate contesting for the Lok Sabha seat in Darjeeling

On Saturday, the MLA requested the Darjeeling District Police to provide security to him apprehending threat to his life.
EOI, DARJEELING, APRIL 13 2024 : The Centre on Saturday removed the security provided to BJP MLA from Kurseong, B.P Bajgain who has decided to contest as an independent candidate in the Lok Sabha seat in Darjeeling due on April 26. The rebel leader is contesting against the BJP MP Raju Bista.
On Saturday, the MLA requested the Darjeeling District Police to provide security to him apprehending threat to his life.
"Home Minister Amit Shah had perceived a threat to my life and provided X category security. Now that I have decided to contest as an independent, my security was taken back right at midnight. It seems the Union Minister is working as a party cadre," said Bajgain.
Bajgain who wanted a son of the soil as a candidate for the Darjeeling seat had protested against the decision of the BJP to field Bista for the second time.
In the past, much to the embarrassment of the BJP leadership, he had questioned the policy of the saffron party and its reluctance to fulfill its election promises.
"I was against the candidate chosen by the BJP as I wanted a bhumiputra. I have also been working according to the BJP manifesto and what the Prime Minister had said.
Removing my security shows that they are against statehood as I am raising my voice for the demand," the Kurseong MLA said. Bajgain said that his life was under a bigger threat now, because of the elections and his continuous demand for Gorkhaland which was the voice of the hill people
