Isolated heavy rainfall/snowfall likely over Sub Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh on 25th & 26th

Heavy rainfall/snowfall likely over Sub Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh on 25th & 26th 

KalimNews, Kalimpong, 26 March 2024 ; Weather forecast has indicated of continued rain/thunderstorm activity over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya and Sikkim on 25th & 26th March, 2024.

It also has predicted a fresh spell of Rainfall/thunderstorm activity over Western Himalayan Region and adjoining plains of northwest India during 26th-29th with peak activity on 28th & 29th March, 2024.

As per the release of the Indian Meteorological Department it has notified of the followings:

Realised weather during past 24 hours till 0830 hours IST of today: 

❖ Light/Moderate rainfall/snowfall recorded at a few places over Arunachal Pradesh; at isolated places over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Sikkim.

❖ Light/Moderate rainfall recorded at a few places over Assam & Meghalaya and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura; at isolated places over Odisha, Bihar, Punjab, HaryanaChandigarh-Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Marathwada, Vidarbha, Telangana, North Interior Karnataka and Kerala & Mahe.

❖ Thunderstorm reported at isolated places over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura.

❖ Heavy rainfall/snowfall observed at isolated places over Sikkim.

Weather Systems and Forecast & Warnings:  

❖ A cyclonic circulation lies over northeast Assam & neighbourhood and a trough runs from northeast Madhya Pradesh to southeast Assam in lower tropospheric levels. Under the influence of these systems:

✓ Fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall with isolated thunderstorms & lightning very likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim on 25th & 26th March, 2024.

✓ Isolated heavy rainfall/snowfall very likely over Arunachal Pradesh on 25th & 26th; Sub Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on 25th and isolated heavy rainfall over Assam & Meghalaya on 25th & 26th March, 2024.

✓ Isolated light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms & lightning very likely over Gangetic West Bengal on 25th & 26th and over Bihar & Jharkhand on 25th March, 2024.

❖ A fresh Western Disturbance as a trough in mid & upper tropospheric westerlies runs roughly along Long. 45°E to the north of Lat. 25°N. Under its influence:

✓ Scattered to fairly widespread light rainfall/snowfall with isolated thunderstorms & lightning likely over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad during 27th- 29th and Himachal Pradesh & Uttarakhand on 28th & 29th March, 2024. Isolated hailstorm also likely over Himachal Pradesh on 28th & 29th March, 2024.

✓ Isolated light rainfall with isolated thunderstorms & lightning likely over Punjab & Haryana on 28th & 29th; East Rajasthan on 28th and West Uttar Pradesh on 29th March, 2024.

❖ Another fresh Western Disturbance likely to affect Western Himalayan Region from 29th March, 2024.

❖ A fresh spell of Rainfall/thunderstorm activity over Western Himalayan Region and adjoining plains of northwest India during 26th to 29th March,2024 with peak activities on 28th & 29th March, 2024 (forecasted in the last release .

Maximum temperature forecast for next 5 days:

❖ Maximum temperature is in the range 36-40°C over south Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, interior Gujarat, interior Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and interior Karnataka, Kerala & Tamil Nadu which are above normal by 1-3°C. It is in the range of 30-35°C over remaining parts of plains of India which are below normal by 1-4°C.

❖ Currently, the maximum temperatures are exceeding 95th percentile of climatological value at isolated pockets of Marathwada, interior Odisha, Kerala, South Interior Karnataka and south coastal Tamil Nadu. These are likely to continue to exceed 95th percentile of climatological value over the same region on 26th March and continue to prevail over extended areas of Marathwada, Vidarbha, interior Odisha and south Madhya Pradesh during 27th-29th March.

❖ Rise in maximum temperatures by 2-3°C very likely over Northwest India during next 3 days and no significant change thereafter.

❖ Gradual rise in maximum temperatures by 2-4°C very likely over East & Central India and interior Maharashtra during next 5 days.

❖ No significant change in maximum temperatures very likely over rest part of the country during next 5 days.

❖ Hot and humid weather very likely to prevail over Telangana, Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal and Kerala & Mahe during 25th-29th March, 2024.
