All set to start Gorkhey Haat in Sombarey Bazar of Gorubathan from March 21

Somabery Bazar is almost 120 years old Monday market of Duars.

KalimNews, Kalimpong, 14 March 2024 : Somabarey bazar haat one of the oldest weekly market of the Western Duars will have an additional local haat called Gorubathan Gorkhey Haat  that will officially be launched on 21st March 2024. 

Starting from 21st March, on every Thursday of the week in the same haat shed only the produce and products of the local producers, growers, cultivators and traditional foods and handicraft and local village industry will be marketed. To strengthen the 120 years old glorious history of the Monday market at Sombarey Bazar of Gorubathan and encourage the local entrepreneur in trades and self reliance and helping in conserving the Gorkhey culture, and tradition this haat is started.

A meeting held recently and chaired by Nima Tamang, chairman of the organizing committee and Pradhan of Gorubthan Gram Panchayat I, resolved to start Gorubthan Gorkhey Haat from March 21.

Gorkhey Haat shall not only provide a platform to local upcoming businessmen, but also shall encourage and promote the tradition and culture of the Gorkha race, it is also considered as a cultural renaissance, Puran Rai, the chief coordinator of the committee said. He requested the businessmen who are setting up their shops in the haat to follow the standards and rules of the organizing committee.

It is informed that in the presence of officers and members of Business Committee, Gram Panchayat, Gorubathan Future Vision, Gorubathan Tourism Development Society, Gorubathan Civil Society etc distribution of work is completed and all set to go.

Registration of shopkeepers at Gorkhe Haat, has also been started from and the registration form and is being issued by Krishna Rasaily, the Secretary of the Business Committee and interested businessmen can set up their shop at Gorkhe Haat after getting the necessary permission.

To make the Gorkhey Haat, a success, the organizing committee has earnestly requested the presence of all the people of Gorubathan and dignitaries around to visit and help in the trade.

The meeting conducted by Puran Rai, the chief coordinator of the organizing committee, was attended by Nima Tamang Panchayat Pradhan, Shyam Thapa, President of Gorubathan Tourism Development Society, Krishna Rasaily, Secretary of the Business Committee, Savahang Rai representing the Gorubathan Civil Society, etc. The organizers informed the meeting that the permission is officially obtained from the concerned department.
