Ajoy Edwards hints at consensus candidate of regional hill parties as alternative to BJP – Trinamool
Don't Miss
YAWAN GURUNG, EOI, MIRIK, MARCH 11, 2024 : The BJP and Trinamool Congress are not favourably disposed towards the Gorkha community. So we must defeat them in the upcoming elections,”Hamro Party President Ajoy Edwards said on Monday.
These two political parties had never thought about the Darjeeling hills, the Terai and the Dooars. The Gorkha people should think of alternatives to the Trinamool Congress and the BJP. “We have many options to field candidates with the consent of all, and other national parties were also an option,” Edwards said, hinting at the possibility of regional political parties in the hills of coming together to field a consensus candidate.
He did not elaborate on other national parties that he had in mind, but Ajoy Edwards had taken part in Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s long march. Congress and CPI(M) are in an electoral alliance in West Bengal.
Ajoy Edwards mentioned about the unfulfilled promises of the BJP to the people of the hills in the last15 years, including a permanent political solution and tribal status to the 11 left-out Gorkha communities.
Tea garden works had not yet been assured of a minimum wage. He also mentioned about “the injustice and atrocities committed on the Gorkha people living in the hills by the Trinamool government.”
