TMC MP Mimi Chakraborty resigns from the post of MP

 

Chakraborty’s resentment is said to be the reason behind his resignation. It is being said that she is angry with the local leadership of TMC.

Agencies, 15 February 2024, Kolkata: While the ruling Trinamool Congress in West Bengal is surrounded by the issue of Sandeshkhali, now the party’s MP and film actress Mimi Chakraborty has resigned. 

Mimi Chakraborty was elected MP by winning from Jadavpur seat of the state. Mimi Chakraborty has sent her resignation to party chief Mamata Banerjee. 

Chakraborty’s resentment is said to be the reason behind his resignation. It is being said that she is angry with the local leadership of TMC. 

Mimi Chakraborty has not submitted her resignation to the Lok Sabha Speaker. 

Now it remains to be seen what decision Mamata Banerjee takes on Chakraborty’s resignation. 

Chakraborty, a first-time MP from Jadavpur, went to the state Assembly in the afternoon to meet TMC supremo and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. 

"Today, I met our party chief. I had submitted my resignation to her on February 13. I have understood in all these years that politics is not my cup of tea," she told reporters. 

It was, however, not clear whether Mamata accepted Chakraborty's resignation. Asked why she tendered her resignation to the Chief Minister and not to the Lok Sabha Speaker as per norms, Chakraborty said: "Once I get the nod from the TMC, I will submit it to the Speaker. "The development comes months ahead of the general elections.

35 year old Mimi Chakraborty had won from Jadavpur Lok Sabha seat of West Bengal in 2019. She was elected a member of the Lok Sabha at the age of 30. 

Mimi Chakraborty, born in Jalpaiguri, is a big actress of Bengali cinema. She has been among the star campaigners of TMC. 

Mimi Chakraborty had defeated BJP candidate Professor Anupam Hazara in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Jadavpur seat. Mimi Chakraborty had cast a spell on the voters in that election. She was declared victorious by about three lakh votes.

The reason behind Mimi Chakraborty’s resignation is dissatisfaction with the local TMC leadership. It is being said that Mimi Chakraborty was angry for the last few days. 

Meanwhile she resigned and submitted her resignation letter to CM Mamata Banerjee. The Jadavpur seat has been held by Trinamool Congress continuously since 2009.
