YAWAN GURUNG, EOI, MIRIK, FEBRUARY 6, 2024 : It is clear that
Gorkhas will not get justice in the ongoing
interim Budget session of Parliament,
Hamro Party president Ajay Edwards said
on Tuesday.
“Only a few days are left for the
completion of five years of the BJP-led
government at the Centre. The interim
Budget was tabled in Parliament a few days
ago. Now only three days are left of the
session,” he said.
Edwards said the people
of the hills of Darjeeling had trusted the
BJP-led government at the Centre for the
past 15 years, hoping that it would give
justice to the Centre.
“But it is clear that the
hill people and the Gorkhas will not get justice even in the on-going interim Budget
session.”
No Bill or proposal had been
submitted to Parliament in favour of the
Gorkhas. There was no possibility that any
such Bill would be submitted.
“This is a very sad matter. In the
previous elections, the top leadership of
the BJP had shown big dreams to the
Gorkhas.
A written promise had been made
in the poll manifesto of the BJP for a
permanent political solution to the
problems of the hills, the Terai and the
Dooars, for inclusion of 11 left-out Gorkha
communities in the list of scheduled tribes
and for fixing a minimum wage for tea
workers. All these years, the promise has
remained unfulfilled.”
