Criminals snatch cash from elderly woman at SBI ATM
PRASHANT ACHARYA, EOI, SILIGURI, FEBRUARY 1, 2024 : A month after motorcycle-borne criminals snatched a purse from two women on Siliguri-Kolkata Highway near Gangaram Tea Estate, another incident of snatching has been reported from Bagdogra’s Bihar More near the SBI ATM counter.
This time snatchers targeted an elderly woman who had withdrawn Rs 10,000 from the ATM and was counting the money outside the counter. Seventy-two years old Maya Devi, a retired government employee, withdrew her pension amount from the SBI ATM at Bihar More Bagdogra and was counting it just outside the door.
She said that two people approached her for help and said that they were in trouble and needed money to return home.
The criminals showed a fake gold bar in exchange for money, When Maya denied, they snatched the amount she had withdrawn from the ATM and ran away.
“I was nervous and could not even cry for help at that moment. They handed over a fake gold bar in my hand and ran away,” said Maya.
Later she went to Bagdogra police station and narrated the entire episode before Officer-in-Charge of Bagdogra Police Station Partho Das, The police are trying to trace the criminals with the aid of the CCTV footages installed at ATM counter.
