Bhutan PM on familiarization tour to Jaigaon, discusses mutual problems on border
RAJESH SHARMA, EOI, JAIGAON, FEBRUARY 24, 2024 : Newly elected Prime Minister of Bhutan Tshering Tobgay on Saturday made a surprise visit to Jaigaon, next to the Bhutanese border town of Bhutan PM on familiarization tour to Jaigaon, discusses mutual problems on border Phuentsholing, accompanied by senior officials of the Bhutan government, the Royal Bhutan Administration and the Bhutanese police administration.
He visited a Sasatra Seema Bal camp and had talk with senior SSB officials. SSB looks after the international border between India and Bhutan.
He walked around, talked to people around and exchanged pleasantries. Tobgay also visited a local sweet shop in Jaigaon.
Talking to newspersons the Prime Minister of Bhutan said the object of his visit was to take stock of the problems of citizens of the two countries living close to the international border.
He said the mutual relations between the two countries were strong. Citizens of both the countries should be made aware of the different problems.
He said he had inquired if Bhutanese citizens were facing any problem making purchases in India using Bhutanese currency.
With SSB officials he discussed the issue of strict checking of Bhutanese citizens at the international border which was posing problems for them. Indian businessmen visiting Phuentsholing said the need for scrutiny of identity cards while crossing the international border was creating difficulties for them
