At 9 degrees C, Darjeeling Madhyamik examinees get room heaters at centres
EOI, DARJEELING, FEBRUARY 2, 2024 : Students appearing for the Madhyamik Examination in the hills were surprised by a visit of members of the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration Sabha and the police to some of the centres to wish the candidates well for their examination.
On Friday, 7968 students under the GTA area appeared for the Madhyamik examination, braving the cold winter morning. In the Darjeeling district,4047 students appeared for their examinations while in the Kalimpong district 3921 students wrote their papers.
In Darjeeling the temperature was 9 degree Celsius when the students reached their examination centres. Following a directive of the West Bengal government, room heaters were provided in every examination centre to keep the students warm and wearing the school tracksuits were allowed."
On behalf of the GTA chairman, I have come to wish the students the best for their examination. I also want to see that heaters have been being provided in every centre," said the GTA Sabha Deputy Chairman Rajesh Chowhan.
The deputy chairman distributed pens and flowers to the students. Darjeeling Superintendent of Police, Praween Prakash reached the Maharani Girls Higher Secondary School to distribute pens and wish the students.
For the first time, each examination centre was provided with a medical team to take care of the health concerns of the students.
"It’s the first day and I am excited about the papers. I have prepared all winter for the examination. I sacrificed my leisure and pleasure. I am confident that I will do well," said Aslashya Gurung.
In the hill areas of Darjeeling district there are 36 centres: Darjeeling has seven,Rimbick two, Bijanbari three, Sukhia four, Mungpoo two, Takdah three, Sonada three, Kurseong four, Latpanchar two,Tindharia three and Mirik three.
