Raju Bista to inquire into the case of the missing bridge at Todey-Tangta, at the foot of Doklam range

Don't Miss

YOWAN MOTHAY, PRASHANT ACHARYA, EOI, KALIMPONG / SILIGURI, JANUARY 29, 2024 : Darjeeling Lok Sabha MP Raju Bista on Monday visited Todey-Tangta, the Indian village situated along the Indo–Bhutan border under the Gorubathan block of Darjeeling district. Lying at the foothills of the Doklam range, the importance of the area from the point of view of security of the country cannot be over estimated.
Bista informed during his visit that the Centre had sanctioned a road connecting Tangta to Kumai More under the Prime Minister’s Gram Sadak Yojana Phase III.
He requested local people to ensure that when the construction of the road started it should be done properly.
Bista said it was the duty of the local communities to monitor infrastructure development projects.
“We cannot allow public money to be siphoned off,” he said. “I am absolutely shocked to see how Rs 12 crore sanctioned for the construction of a bridge over Dabai Khola connecting Todey with Tangta back in 2012 was misused.
The money has disappeared and the people are forced to make do with a rickety bridge built with bamboo.
It is infuriating to see how those in power locally have looted our region and people. I have assured the people that I will look into the missing bridge case, and take up the matter with the appropriate authorities for the completion of the bridge.
